It is with great sadness that I report to our Eastern Pequot Tribal Community the passing of our Sachem, Roy "Chief Hockeo" Sebastian (Running Deer). Chief Hockeo passed on to the spirit world early this morning to be with the Creator. He was 96 years old. As a former Chairman (1976-1997) and Sachem for life (1997-present), Chief Hockeo fought for Tribal Sovereignty and Tribal rights for all of his life.
A fire will be lit tonight at the ceremonial grounds until Friday; drumming will take place Friday evening as we honor and celebrate Chief Hockeo's life. You are invited to place a log into the fire as a demostration of your love and support for the Roy Sebastian family.
There will be a memorial celeration for the Eastern Pequot Tribal Community, Sebastian family members, and Chief Hockeo's vast amout of friends on the reservation Sunday June 12th at 1pm.
